Jessica Alba started acting in 1994, but it was her lead in the television series Dark Angel in the early 2000’s that gained her celebrity status.
Alba has gone on to have a successful career acting in both big screen movies and television shows, been nominated for a Golden Globe, and she’s gained notoriety for her unmistakable beauty.
But what has really surprised us is the success her company she co-founded in 2012, The Honest Company, has had. The company, which was inspired by the birth of Alba’s first daughter, was started because Alba saw a need as a young mother to find safe and effective products that were affordable for the everyday mom and could be purchased in one location.
The Honest Company sells eco-friendly, non-toxic household and baby products, including diapers both online and through retailers such as Target and Buy Buy Baby and as of August 2015, was valued at $1.7 billion.
In 2013, Alba also put out her book, “The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You,” which became a New York Times bestseller. In the book, Alba shares her personal journey of being a mother to two daughters and leading an environmentally-friendly life. Alba shares tips and gives readers ideas for making healthy living easy for a family in a user-friendly, down-to-earth format.
In 2015, the company branched out with a second company which sells skin-care and makeup products, Honest Beauty, and uses the same standards as The Honest Company and is sold online and in retail stores such as Ulta.
By standing behind her products and leading by example, The Honest Company and Honest Beauty have become household names to the average household woman and mom because Alba’s incredible ability to make herself relatable.
